Train orderly

It was June 2020, It had only been two months since we had the freedom to hit the road. Confinement had left me mentally and physically affected. We also, It caught me by surprise on a work trip to Canada., When I had barely been there three days I had to return at the risk of having European airports closed.. Totally unprepared, I found myself locked up at home and… The worst! No roller! That element was not part of my life, I thought it was an item for people with a caged hamster complex. Now I have three! One in my house in Andorra, another at my partner's house and another that I bought for my son for his student apartment. But what was I going for?, I'm not going to go into much detail talking about rollers and how essential it is to have one for those cyclists who take it seriously; said that, in June of last year, I was physically and mentally touched. I had picked up the bike as a simple cycling enthusiast like other springs and it was beginning to take shape in the month and a half that we had been free..

But my head needed more, I have always liked to compete, I had previously competed in alpine skiing (I still do, although with less intensity) and in motorsport. I considered cycling. This was indeed a challenge with 53 years! Competing in this sport is not something that can be done simply by having technical or mental skills., requires orderly and planned training, taking into account shape peaks and long-term evolution. Evidently it was not enough to go out and do little things in Andorra., where i live, and to think that the higher I went, the stronger I would be. Without the help of good planning it was not possible to compete..

I searched, informed me, I asked friends who competed. There were many tips and recommendations, but the one I heard the most is: “talk to Codinach”. So I soon contacted C2 Cycling Coach and we start working. At first everything was new and discoveries: I had never used a potentiometer in my life., It had a simple heart rate monitor that marked the heart rate erratically and failed more than a shotgun at a fair., I didn't know what it was like to take a recuperator after training and I had a few extra pounds.

The truth is that training in an orderly manner changed my life and my motivation.. The use of tools like Training Peaks was another great discovery. Going to bed knowing exactly what I will have to do the next day saves me stress and makes a person like me who, no matter how much he has been doing sports and competing all his life, I have no idea how to plan something as specific as cycling without having to improvise.. Training in an orderly and planned manner has made me see that if you strictly comply with the guidelines of the professionals who guide you, the progression is constant., and more so in my case that I had never done it like this in cycling, which means a lot of room for improvement.

I started training with C2Cycling Coach in June 2020 and until the fateful 30 May the progression was constant, The shape peaks were increasingly higher on the graph. But, competitive sport things, On the last Sunday of May of this year I suffered a serious fall during the Catalunya Master Championships 50 and I ended up in the ambulance with a fractured femur and from there straight to the operating room at the Palamós Hospital.. Despite the misfortune of having suffered an accident and seeing the season suddenly cut short, my hopes are still there.. And I must say that, And I don't want this article to seem like a propaganda allegory., I simply tell the truth of what I feel, C2 Cycling Coach is still there. Josep Codinach called me from the first moment. And both he and my coach, Jordi Serrallonga has always been present helping me in the rehabilitation process and planning recovery. Always attentive to answer my questions and advise me at all times. The truth, I have no idea how many clients they have., but whenever I interact with them I experience it as if I were their only rider.. The treatment is highly personalized.

Say that today, four weeks after the operation, I have received approval from the traumatologist to begin ride a bike on the asphalt. Suave, without forcing, but this fills me with encouragement and makes me see that despite the accident the season is not lost. I'm already thinking about the September and October races with the same enthusiasm.. And I am sure that if I follow the planning correctly as I have done until now I will arrive in top shape..
